Savills Putney

Putney, a suburb just south of the River Thames, in leafy South West London, has evolved as a result of its proximity to the River and the City of London.

The great building programmes of the Victorian and Edwardian eras followed the gentrification of the area during Georgian times and have undoubtedly left the greatest legacy; houses for sale in Putney consist mainly of terraced houses and a profusion of villas, being large semi or detached houses with extensive gardens.

The Victorian influence does not stop at housing, however, and there are still excellent transport links. The journey time to Waterloo, at approximately 20 minutes, is as significant a draw for commuters today as it was then. Furthermore, the district line service is well served by both East Putney and Putney Bridge stations.

Putney’s proximity to the A3, allowing easy access out of town, and its location on the banks of the River Thames for boating, walking and other leisure pursuits also stand it in very good stead, helping to underwrite property prices in the area. Indeed, The Oxford and Cambridge boat race starts at Putney Bridge, bringing the area into the international spotlight.

There are also many green expanses, with Putney Common, Putney Heath and Wandsworth Park in the immediate area.

Putney is particularly popular with young families drawn to the good private, faith and state schools in the area, both at primary and secondary level. 

Putney High Street has many convenient shops and the Putney Exchange shopping mall, is well served by a diverse range of retailers. There are also some excellent restaurants and gourmet pubs, which are popular with residents in the area.
