Newbury is a busy market town in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in West Berkshire. The town originated as a New Borough in the 11th century and grew largely due to the cloth trade in the 16th century.
It is situated on the River Kennet and the Kennet & Avon Canal. Major communication routes are readily available, including main line rail services to London, direct access to the A34 north and south, and easy access to the M4 to London and the west country.
The town is home to many hi-tech communications, pharmaceutical and IT industries, which now form the main sources of employment
Newbury is home to one of England's major racecourses. The most prestigious race in the calendar is the Hennessy Gold Cup.
The area is extremely well served for both state and independent schooling of all ages.
The surrounding villages are extremely pretty and all have their individual benefits, many retaining their public houses and local shop or post offices.
