Currently the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is 417 parts per million. This compares to a pre-industrial level of 278 parts per million. Since the first conference of parties in Berlin in 1995, the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide has been steadily rising at about 2 parts per million per year, showing that despite the rhetoric, we’re still not having much of an impact on global carbon emissions. This trend needs to be slowed and reversed if we’re to limit the impacts of climate change. This is the race to zero.
