On Wednesday 21 June, we held the latest webinar in the Savills sponsored Cambridge University Land Society ESG series, organised by the Society’s ESG & Sustainability Forum, which discuses alternative uses for rural land.
Our land is under increasing pressure from a variety of sources which is undermining land’s ability to provide those crucial eco-systems services such as food, maintaining fresh water and regulating the air and climate quality. It is estimated that up to 40% of the world’s land is degraded which, unless actions are taken will have major implications for carbon emissions. There are also significant economic gains from land restoration.
The lively debate was introduced by Ami Kotecha, Chair of ESG & Sustainability Forum at CULS and Co-Founder, Amro Partners, and moderated by Munish Datta, Director of Sustainability for Specsavers and previously a Director of the UK Green Building Council, and includes perspectives from our panellists:
Claudine Blamey from Aviva Investors, Dr Niki Rust, Head of Nature, Ag & Land, UK Climate Change Committee, and Dr Bruce Lascelles, Director of Sustainable Land Management at Arcadis and Past President of the British Society of Soil Science.
