Baseline Assessment

Knowing an estate or farm’s current carbon baseline is key to reaching net zero and unlocking new natural capital markets. It also acts as a starting point for all future land management and enables the tracking of progress as land is regenerated.

Baselining allows landowners and investors to understand the current natural capital position and the potential financial and non-financial returns of land already owned or for any future investment.

Knowing the baseline position will inform decisions for the ongoing and future management of the farm or estate, as well as providing insights into the potential for reaching new nature-based markets. New markets include insetting carbon emissions, or selling carbon credits, or creating biodiversity units for developers to meet biodiversity net gain targets.

Using a combination of GIS and site survey information carbon, water, air and soil metrics can all be established. This data can then be benchmarked against other land, previous years or natural capital enhancement plans.
