Thank you to those who attended the latest webinar in the Savills sponsored Cambridge University Land Society ESG series, organised by the Society’s ESG & Sustainability Forum.
In this webinar, held on Wednesday 11 October 19 January, our panellists discussed the Adaptation of Cities to Climate Change. An estimated 30% of the UK’s population resides in its top 8 cities and c 84% resides in urban conurbation. Given larger cities have the propensity to warm up faster and stay dangerously warm during heatwaves and can also experience greater degrees of harm from flooding and storm-related damage relative to less built up and populated areas, it is not only urgent to invest in Net Zero strategies that lower GHG emissions but equally urgent to invest in adaptation of our urban infrastructure and our built environment to cope with extreme weather conditions.
The lively debate was introduced by Ami Kotecha, Chair of ESG & Sustainability Forum at CULS and Co-Founder, Amro Partners, moderated by Stephen Jones, Director of Core Cities UK, and included perspectives from our panellists:
Professor Piers Forster, Interim Chair at UK Climate Change Committee, Ruth Knight, Head of Climate and Sustainability at English Heritage, Ben Smallwood, Sustainability Coordinator and Sustainable City Team Manager, and Alex MacGillivray, Executive Director of Joint Impact Model Foundation & Tutor on the Business and Climate Change.
