Homes in alpine resorts have experienced a resurgence in popularity recently. Savills saw buyer numbers in the Alpine property market double in the first half of 2013, but prices have generally remained stable after corrections in 2011-12 – although there have been rising asking prices in exclusive resorts such as Verbier and Kitzbühel.
Our research also shows that buyers are confident in renting out their new homes when they are not using it themselves. 80% of prospective buyers say they intend to do this to help cover finance and the operational costs of their new home.
Of the three main markets Switzerland remains the most expensive and exclusive, while concerns over President Hollande’s France seem to be pushing more people towards buying in the stable housing market of Austria.
