Savills has been commended by the Government supported Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), for its approach to the disclosure of climate change information. It is the only UK real estate advisor to be featured in the top ten of the FTSE350 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index 2011 and stands alongside major property companies such as British Land and Great Portland Estates, and an array of other top brands including Barclays, Royal Dutch Shell and Vodafone.
The CDP represents 551 institutional investors with $71 trillion in assets under management worldwide. It is used by a wide audience to appraise the environmental performance of participating companies and highlights the constituent companies within the FTSE 350 which have displayed the most professional approach to corporate governance regarding climate change information disclosure practices. Companies are scored on their climate change disclosure and high scores indicate good internal data management and understanding of climate change related issues affecting the company.
Paul Simpson, Chief Executive Officer of the Carbon Disclosure Project, comments: “Companies that make the Leadership Index have shown a strong awareness of the business issues related to climate change including climate-related risks and opportunities. Those organisations that give clear consideration to measuring and reporting on climate change issues will be best placed to capitalise on the opportunities from managing them.”
Jeremy Helsby, Chief Executive Officer of Savills plc, says: “Inclusion within the CD Leadership Index is an important, independent endorsement of our corporate values and standards. Our vision to be the real estate advisor of choice must include being at the forefront of corporate governance regarding climate change”.
The 2011 Leadership Index comprises 36 companies drawn from the FTSE 350. It is based on analysis of their responses to a detailed questionnaire which focused on greenhouse gas emissions, emissions reduction strategies and the company’s perception of the risks and opportunities associated with climate change.
