CHALLENGE

NFU Mutual instructed Savills Energy to conduct an EV feasibility and tender exercise for the installation of electric vehicle charging at six retail sites within their retail park portfolio.

As part of the works, they wanted to compare two investment methods (self-funded vs lease options). Following on from the tendering Savills negotiated Heads of Terms on behalf of the NFU with their chosen developer.

SOLUTION

Savills carried out grid surgeries with the different District Network Operators (DNO) and submitted budget quotes to understand the trigger points for new connection costs.

Savills engaged with ten different EV charger developers who provide a fully funded solution.

RESULTS

Seven developers provided initial Head of Terms for a fully funded solution, their commercial offers were compared on a like-for-like basis. Savills estimated a EV forecourt size and estimated equipment and installation costs as well as grid connection costs provided by the different DNOs.

NFU Mutual decided to proceed with a lease option, three bidders were taken to the next stage of interviews. One party was selected.
