CHALLENGE
The Lamington Group sought to deliver an ambitious hotel development, 23 Picadilly, in York while meeting high sustainability standards, including Net Zero Carbon in construction and operation. The project required a clear sustainability vision, measurable KPIs, and technical guidance on energy and whole life carbon performance. Ensuring alignment across stakeholders and maintaining sustainability commitments throughout the construction phase were key priorities.

SOLUTION
As Sustainability Champion, Savills Earth has developed the charter to include sustainability aspirations and KPIs, attended design and client team meetings as the lead sustainability expert, and reviewed design proposals specifications and tender documentation to ensure alignment with sustainability and Net Zero targets. As the lead consultant for Net Zero and Whole Life Carbon, we provided guidance during the design phase on optimal strategies for achieving Net Zero in construction and operation. This involved developing various energy and embodied carbon models, refining them through iterations, and conducting workshops with key project stakeholders.

RESULTS
Through our work, we assessed the building’s baseline condition and identified targeted measures required to meet the project’s key performance indicators. Following our detailed modelling and iterative design process, we successfully met the client’s targets for both operational and embodied carbon.
We will continue to support the project team throughout the construction phase to ensure it remains on track to achieve its ambitious sustainability objectives.
