CHALLENGE
Cathedral Group appointed us to support a development partnership with Brighton and Hove City Council. The challenge was to deliver a rich mix of uses on a highly sensitive city centre site, at a level of density not previously attempted in Brighton. At its simplest: how do you increase density significantly while still respecting the surrounding historic environment?

SOLUTION
We worked alongside Shedkm, providing advice and advocacy to ensure the scheme responded appropriately to its heritage context. Together, we developed a strategy for modestly high buildings, carefully testing views against nearby listed buildings along Grand Parade and the Grade I listed Brighton Pavilion. Our role focused on ensuring the design quality matched the level of impact the development would have on its surroundings.

RESULTS
The development has now been completed. It delivers a complex, mixed-use scheme within a sensitive setting, showing how thoughtful design and careful testing can support higher density without compromising heritage.
