Savills secured a recommendation for approval at committee in January 2021 for the refurbishment of four blocks on the William Sutton Estate in Chelsea, which had been empty for 5 years. The blocks currently comprise 159 poor quality flats and the proposals are to provide 81 Social / London Affordable Rent homes within the buildings, changes to the exteriors to provide balconies and new windows and an estate wide high quality landscaping scheme to significantly improve outdoor spaces for residents. The headline issue was the net loss of homes; an issue which RBKC are sensitive about due to the challenges they face in finding sufficient land for housing. However, careful and considerable engagement with Estate residents, Councillors and officers ensured a successful outcome.
