CHALLENGE

ARA Dunedin instructed Savills to undertake an options appraisal regarding the possible sources of power for a new EV charging installation in an office car park in Surrey.

The key challenge was to ensure that an EV charging installation didn’t negatively impact potential increases in power requirement at the office buildings, which could otherwise impact the future letting potential of the buildings.

SOLUTION

Savills reviewed historic energy consumption data to quantify the current “state of play” and undertook a grid “surgery” with the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) to understand local headroom and possible costs for increasing power provision.

Three options were identified as being available, and the options appraisal identified the most cost-effective solution, and flagged potential risks to power provision at the office buildings.

RESULTS

The result was a clear path toward installation which minimised impact on office power supply and considered the site as a whole.

Savills will progress the installation in a project management capacity.
