Pevsner's very own 'Building of England' for sale

Pevsner Guides

Sir Nikolaus Pevsner was the legendary creator of The Buildings of England. Published between 1951 and 1974, the county-by-county series explores 46 volumes worth of English architecture, from Cornwall to Cumbria, London to Lancashire. Scotland, Ireland and Wales were added in the late Seventies.

The writer and art historian himself favoured Victorian architecture. He was a founder member of The Victorian Society and, for more than five decades, lived in a three-bedroom Victorian house on a private road abutting Hampstead Heath.

No 2, Wildwood Terrace, awarded a blue plaque by English Heritage in 2007 and refurbished in a contemporary style, has recently come on the market for a guide price of £2,800.000.

It's a rare chance to glimpse inside the home of the man who spent his lifetime documenting some of the most interesting houses and buildings across the country.

Pevsner died in 1983, but his guides continue to be published and revised. Providing detailed information on all types of architecture, the handbooks are a valuable reference source for both specialists and anyone with a general interest in an area and its buildings.

The following five properties, all currently for sale, featured in Pevsner’s guides.
