Masterplanning

Masterplanning is working out how best to lay out building blocks, transport infrastructure, public realm and the many other things that make up an urban environment. It provides the framework within which architects will later develop specific buildings.

How we can help you:

We have masterplanners in several of our offices. They have the ability to analyse sites and clients' requirements and produce anything from a layout plan for a modest housing development to a fully-fledged blueprint for a new settlement.

Our Expertise:

Our masterplanners come from a variety of backgrounds: planners, architects, landscape architects, sustainability experts, economic specialists. They share an ability to analyse, visualise and synthesise.

The art of placemaking has evolved considerably over recent years, and we have been at the forefront. We not only possess the necessary creative skills, but our Research Department has a wealth of information on the effectiveness of different approaches; our Development Consultancy colleagues have an unrivalled knowledge of what the market will accept; our Sustainability experts are able to advise on this increasingly important aspect; and our Planners know what will be likely to find favour with stakeholders and planning decision-makers.

Community engagement is an increasingly important aspect of masterplanning: sometimes involving simple techniques (for example, meetings, surveys and exhibitions), other times being very sophisticated (for example, charettes and Enquiries by Design). We have the experience to manage these processes effectively.

Masterplan schemes are often large in scale, and our masterplanners work closely with our Environmental Impact Assessment team.
