Wind Energy
Savills has undertaken wind energy projects for several UK developers, including npower, RES Limited, Ecotricity, Enertrag and Infinergy. The company understands the commercial demands of wind farming - experience gained through the establishment of wind energy developer Infinergy in a joint venture with a Dutch company in 2003. Savills disposed of its interests in Infinergy in 2008.
Site search and evaluation - from single turbines to large onshore wind farms. Savills provides expert interpretation of planning policy and environmental constraints, taking into account the particular requirements of wind energy projects during construction and operation. Specialist aviation, radar and telecommunications assessments can also be commissioned.
Planning applications - or, for projects with a generation capacity of over 50 MWe, applications under the Electricity Act 1989. Savills has a 200-strong planning team and is one of the UK's principal planning consultants for renewable energy projects.
Environmental impact assessment - the company is a major environmental impact assessment practitioner and a ‘registered assessor' member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment - the most senior level of membership.
Grid connection analysis - Savills specialist strategic projects team can identify the feasibility of connecting to the local electricity distribution network, and the potential need for network upgrades.
Site acquisition and wayleave negotiations - for wind turbines and their road access and grid connection infrastructure. These negotiations can be undertaken on behalf of either the generator or the landowner and include option and lease agreements.
Planning appeal and expert witness services - planning appeal coordination and the preparation and delivery of planning evidence at public inquiries.
Landowner support - Savills rural practice team provides advice on option and lease negotiations, valuations, site promotion and marketing, acquisitions and disposals, construction supervision and compensation claims.
An effective member of your project team - a wind energy project might require some of the skills listed above, but not others. Savills fits its services around a client's existing project team, providing bespoke services cost-effectively.
