The Kercock Fishings, River Tay, Perthshire - Offers Over £1,550,000
The fishings are effectively operated as two beats, Upper Kercock and Lower Kercock, which were put together in the mid 1970s by the 17th Earl of Perth and the late Hugh Kerr of Tower of Lethendy. Together they have 14 named pools and offer salmon and sea trout fishing for up to 12 rods each day. Upper Kercock marches with Baldarroch and Burnbane and has well known pools including Boatlands and the Dungeon. Lower Kercock marches with Meikleour House; the Cottage Pool and the Oak Tree Pool fall within this beat.
Kercock provides an enormous variety of fishing, suitable for both the fly and spinning and comfortably accommodate novices and more experienced anglers alike, with tremendous scope in almost all heights of water. The beats can be fished from the banks, by wading, or by boat. The record books show that a number of impressive fish have been caught on the beats. Recent catches have improved year on year. In particular, spring catches have shown a significant increase, and last season (2006) produced a record bag of 415 salmon and 40 sea trout. Historically, August and September have been the most productive months.
The River Tay generally has seen greatly improving seasons over the last couple of years. Kercock has been particularly well let, improving year on year, with many returning tenants. The letting has been managed by CKDGalbraith, who have a long association with the beat. Fishing may also be secured through the Fish Tay website (www.FishTay.co.uk) where up to date rod availability and catch information is available. Corporate groups, individuals or smaller parties are welcomed, and lets may be of single days or more. This element of flexibility has no doubt added to the beat's popularity.
Two full time ghillies are employed, and tuition in all aspects of salmon fishing is available. Two boats are operated and these, together with the contents of the fishing huts, are included in the sale.
Kercock is only 15 miles from Perth, near Meikleour, and thus easily reached from the main cities of Scotland. It is also an extremely private beat, surrounded by farmland, with no public roads running alongside to spoil the tranquility of the setting.
William Jackson of CKD Galbraith says, "This is the first major beat on the lower Tay to have been advertised for sale for many years. It is unusual for such a prolific beat to be offered, and we would anticipate considerable interest from the fishing fraternity - both individuals and syndicates."
Anna Thomas/Guy Galbraith of Savills concurs, "Such few beats as have been sold recently have generally sold well. There is a lot of demand out there."
The guide price for the Kercock Fishings is offers over £1,550,000 .
