Alex Lawson, of Savills London Farms and Estates team explains why its been a good year in the farmland market

Welcome to the Savills Farm Sales List, which features a range of the farms and estates that we are currently marketing across Great Britain, as well as providing an overview of the farmland market over the past year.

It has been a good year; as the regional round-ups show, the market for farmland remains buoyant, despite increasing political and economic influences. Although supply has increased in the first quarter of this year,in comparison to the same period last year it is still constrained.

In England as a whole, just over 15,500 acres were marketed, an increase of 14 per cent from 13,500 acres in the same period last year. Scotland has seen the amount of land offered for sale rising from 4,200 in the first quarter of 2009 to just under 5,000 acres this year – a 16 per cent increase.
