The smoke and carbon monoxide alarms (England) regulations 2015
From 1st October 2015 all rented properties are required to have a working smoke alarm on every floor as well as a Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarm in any room where there is a solid fuel appliance, and this includes working open fires.
For all new tenancies you must be able to provide evidence of testing the alarms at the start of a tenancy.
For properties which are managed by Savills, we will be contacting you shortly with further details of how we will undertake these checks on your behalf in order to ensure your property is fully compliant. For non managed properties, the responsibility remains with the landlord.
For properties which are currently tenanted, the responsibility of regularly checking both alarms during a tenancy to ensure they are in full working order lies with the tenant. The landlord will have an ongoing responsibility for the replacement and fitting of any new units if they are required.
