Many properties have asbestos and whilst it is intact it should not pose a risk.
However, use of asbestos containing material was widespread in residential properties prior to legislation being introduced in the 1990s. Over time material containing asbestos will deteriorate, which is a pattern that we are now seeing. As a Landlord you have a responsibility for the health and safety of any tenants, visitors or contractors, in your property, therefore if you are aware that asbestos is present, then we recommend that a survey is undertaken to establish if any remedial works or monitoring is required.
For our managed clients, in the first instance, please contact your Property Manager – all properties that are under Savills management and contain asbestos will have to have a survey undertaken and an asbestos management plan put in place. If your property is not managed by Savills, please speak to the head of your local Lettings department.
