Leeds landmark office building gets off the ground

Savills Leeds has combined forces to facilitate an anchor tenant on the next phase of MEPC’s prestige office development at Wellington Place.

The planning team advised MEPC on consent, with the office agency team negotiating the pre-let on behalf of the new occupier, Shulmans solicitors.

The 35,000sq.ft building at No.10 Wellington Place, Leeds, is the first new build Grade A office development to commence in the city since the economic downturn.

Outline planning permission for the 3m sq.ft Wellington Place scheme, which is due to start construction later this month, was secured by the Leeds Planning team in 2008, with various reserved matters approvals being secured subsequently.

Paul Fairhurst Head of Savills Leeds, who acted for Shulmans, comments: “This is an exciting time for Leeds as Land Securities 1million sq.ft Leeds Trinity shopping centre launched last month and Leeds Arena, a 13,500 capacity venue is due to open later in the year.”

Richard Serra Head of Northern Planning, acting for MEPC adds: “The key to unlocking No.10 has been our renegotiation of the S.106, which was originally settled in a very different climate. The client has also been extremely pleased with advice received on rights of light matters from Jonathan Lonergan in the City Neighbourly Matters team.”
