Retirement/Assisted living
Retirement housing is deisgned to enable its residents to remain as independent as possible but at the same time providing the added benefits of support, security and help if and when it's needed.
Retirement housing is usually purpose-built and includes various safety features for resident's peace of mind. Property ranges from apartments and flats to bungalows or houses and to those that are completely independent, to new homes that are specifically aimed at buyers that beed to have assisted facilities available. Some developments are 'stand alone', others form part of much longer 'village' communities with added facilities.
Savills have specialists in the field of retirement homes and assisted living, which means not only do we have the experience in the retirement sector, but also a wealth of knowledge that we can pass on to our customers.
There are two main types of retirement property; firstly sheltered housing, usually with a communal entrance and facilities such as lounge, laundry and sometimes guest suites. This sees residents living independnetly in their own home with their own bedroom, lounge, kitchen and bathroom. Secondly there are close care retirement properties also known as assisted living homes, where residents live independently in their own property but with either dedicated healthcare provisions on site, or an actual care home. Assisted living can often be a good choice for couples who need different levels of care provision or declining health.
