What is Reigate like?
Reigate is all about commuter convenience and family-friendly living in a handsome setting. A venerable market town, it has a charming high street lined with good coffee shops, restaurants and boutiques. Although the town’s character is firmly Victorian and Edwardian, the ancient Castle, set in attractive public gardens, is a reminder of a far more ancient history. The beautiful Priory Park is a real hub of outdoor activities and events, boasting extensive sporting facilities, formal gardens and a lake.
We concentrate on Reigate’s three distinct markets: Reigate town itself; villages within a 15-mile radius; and the exclusive Kingswood Estate.
Property in Reigate
Reigate is prime commuter belt, offering a superb range of property of all types and periods. Close to the town centre, Victorian cottages and detached Victorian and Edwardian family houses are highly popular, while the Kingswood Estate has numerous aspirational modern houses. The villages between Reigate and Dorking are particularly popular; here, classic village property and country houses offer a stylish but genuinely rural lifestyle.
For pretty cottage-style property handy for Reigate town centre, look in Nutley Lane, Deerings Road and Eversfield Road.
For period townhouses and villas, try The Way, Alma Road, Alders Road, Beech Road and Pilgrims Way.
For perfect village settings, head to Brockham, Leigh, Buckland, Betchworth, Bletchingly and Nutfield.
For exclusive, new-build glamour, look in The Warren on the Kingswood Estate.
The local scene
Reigate is surrounded by green belt land with the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the doorstep. Neighbouring Redhill is unlovely but offers better rail links than Reigate.
Junction 8 of the M25 is just to the north, providing fast access to Heathrow Airport.
Gatwick Airport lies a few miles to the south, directly accessed by the A217.
Rail services from Redhill run to London Victoria and London Bridge in under 40 minutes, and also run down to Brighton.
Schools in Reigate
Proximity to Reigate’s superb schools is always coveted. The major independent schools include Reigate Grammar School, Reigate St Mary’s Preparatory and Choir School, Dunottar School for Girls, Micklefield Preparatory School and The Hawthorns. State schooling here is also excellent, with Reigate School, Reigate Priory and Holmsdale Community Infant School particularly in demand.
