What is Perth like?
Of course, the scenery is what characterises this corner of Scotland: Perth is the gateway to the Highlands, and the great lochs lie to the East. Perth itself is the UK’s newest city — it was granted city status to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
We cater to a busy market for second homes, particularly in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and other acknowledged beauty spots, and there is always strong demand for good-quality farmland, on which we liase with Savills Edinburgh. But the real attraction of the area is as a base for commuting into Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and Dundee, all of which are about an hour away.
Property in Perth
Very little residential property comes to the market in Perth; when it does, the aspirational address is Kinnoull Hill, with its fine selection of Victorian and Georgian houses and stupendous views.
The area offers numerous cottages that make ideal second homes, whether waterside retreats on the lochs or Highland hideaways up a glen. A good choice of attractive small towns along the A9 corridor balances convenience with a scenic setting.
For Kinnoull Hill aspiration, head to Drummond Terrace, Perth.
For second homes, look around St Fillans, Aberfeldy, Loch Lomond and Loch Tay.
For commuter convenience, try Auchterarder and Kinross.
For contemporary chic, go to Gleneagles.
The local scene
Perth is a sophisticated place with its own, highly acclaimed annual festival that mounts a varied programme of opera, classical concerts and jazz. First-rate theatre is available at the Perth Theatre and the Pitlochry Festival Theatre. And it’s the ideal place for outdoor pursuits, from sailing and watersports to walking, riding and field sports.
The A9 links Perth with Inverness to th North and Stirling to the South-West; the M90 provides fast access to Edinburgh.
Perth Station provides rail services to Edinburgh via Fife, Glasgow via Stirling, Aberdeen via Dundee, and Inverness.
