What is Islington like?

Islington is a diverse, friendly area in north London. Many residents either walk or easily commute into the City and the West End - one of the advantages of such a central London location.

Savills Islington covers a varied area, encompassing lively Angel and Clerkenwell, and the charm of Barnsbury and Canonbury.

Property in Islington

Islington’s Georgian and Victorian roots are visible in its superb array of period properties, laid out in lovely squares and tree-lined streets. Highbury is a characterful mixture of Victorian and Edwardian architecture — a good place to look for conversion flats. Throughout the area, some high-quality new developments offer a great choice of modern apartments.

For grand, early-Victorian villas, go to Canonbury.

For charming family homes on pretty garden squares, look in Barnsbury.

For classic terraces of Georgian townhouses, try Angel.

For substantial, late-Victorian houses, go to Highbury Fields.

The local scene

Noted for its fashionable vibe, Islington has a sophisticated range of shops, restaurants and bars, and a lively café culture. It is a hub of artistic and sporting activity: the Almeida, King’s Head and Sadler’s Wells Theatres, and the new Kings Place, provide a stunning variety of drama, dance and music, while at Highbury the futuristic Emirates Stadium is the home of Premier League Arsenal FC.

Highbury Fields is the most notable of a series of parks, greens and garden squares that makes Islington one of central London’s leafiest areas.

Nearby St Pancras Station provides high-speed rail services to the Continent, while mainline services to the North and Scotland are available from King’s Cross.
