What is Ealing like?

Ealing is a district in west London. It is situated 7.9 miles west of Charing Cross and circa 12 miles from the City of London. The area was historically know as the "Queen of the Suburbs”, gaining the title due to the parkland and more rural feel on offer compared to the central London of the Victorian era.

Ealing meets all the prerequisites of families who are searching for the advantages of being close to central London but with all the needs of a growing family catered for. From one and two bedroom flats to prime detached Victorian and Edwardian houses with large gardens, Ealing offers one of the broadest spectrums of property that can be found in any London suburb. With excellent transport links, a wide choice of schools, beautiful parks and a bustling centre, it’s little wonder that more and more families are moving to Ealing.

The Local Scene

Ealing is possibly most famous for being home to Ealing Studios, the oldest continuously working film studio in the world. Ealing Studios has accommodated high profile films including Notting Hill, Star Wars – Episode 2, Sean Of The Dead and Bridget Jones 2. More recently, the BBC’s Downton Abbey was largely shot at Ealing Studios.

Walpole Park plays host to many summer events including an annual jazz festival. There are several other large parks including Gunnersbury Park, ideal for long walks, and the setting for many summer sporting tournaments. Lammas Park features enchanting gardens and is ideal for a picnic. Ealing can offer the choice of two golf courses; Ealing Golf Course and Hanger Hill Golf Course.

Ealing Broadway has a large indoor shopping centre offering a wide variety of high street stores, boutiques and a supermarket, with other shops located off Ealing Green and Haven Green. The area has been subject to much regeneration recently including Dickens Yard (698 high-quality apartments) right in the heart of Ealing with traffic-free streets lined with boutique shops and cafes when it is complete.

Getting About

Ealing offers excellent transport links with the main station at Ealing Broadway providing Central and District Tube services, London Overground and regular mainline services into London Paddington and Heathrow Airport.

Ealing Common Station hosts District & Piccadilly line services and other tube stations in the area are South Ealing, Northfields and North Ealing.

Crossrail, the new high speed cross-London rail link, will transform commuting from four stations in the borough of Ealing. West Ealing, Ealing Broadway, Acton Main Line and Hanwell will all receive Crossrail services and will halve some current journey times to central London. Direct connections between Ealing Broadway and Heathrow Airport will be circa 15 minutes, and Ealing Broadway to the City will be circa 20 minutes. Services are due to commence in 2018.
