By the 18th Century Bristol was a leading port for the importation of tobacco, sugar and other foods, bringing great wealth to the city. This resulted in the construction of the fine Georgian terraces that line Clifton’s streets and Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s famous suspension bridge. Many of the Georgian houses have remained as family homes and others have been split into smart and desirable apartments.
More recently Bristol has seen further expansion, including the regeneration of the Harbourside and the construction of the award winning Cabot circus, providing over 1 million sq ft of retail outlets including Harvey Nichols.
There is some stunning countryside beyond the city boundaries and some notable properties such as Tyntesfield House, recently bought by the National Trust. Ashton Court offers excellent leisure facilities including a David Lloyd sports club, golf and woodland walking, and sailing and water sports can be found at Chew Valley Lake.
Families are attracted to the area by some excellent private schools including Clifton College, Badminton and The Downs School, all of which offer primary and secondary education. The highly regarded university attracts students from all over the world and, with its own airport, Bristol has excellent international communications. The motorway networks make the area very accessible and high speed trains also run into and out of Bristol to London Paddingon, Birmingham and beyond.
Savills Bristol Clifton has many residential houses and flats for sale in Bristol, Clifton and the surrounding areas.
