By the 18^th Century Bristol was a leading port for the importation of tobacco, sugar and other foods, bringing great wealth to the city. This resulted in the construction of the fine Georgian terraces that line Clifton’s streets and Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s famous suspension bridge. Families are attracted to the area by some excellent private schools including Clifton College, Badminton and The Downs School, all of which offer primary and secondary education. The highly regarded university attracts students from all over the world and, with its own airport, Bristol has excellent international communications. The motorway networks make the area very accessible and high speed trains also run into and out of Bristol to London Paddingon, Birmingham and beyond.
