Grade II listed hotel in Yorkshire Dales National Park comes to market

19 May 2017

Savills and Fox Grant, on behalf of a private client, have brought to market The Burgoyne Hotel in the North Yorkshire Dales for a guide price of £850,000.

The Grade II listed Georgian property dates back 1783 and is located within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, at the top of the scenic village of Reeth in Swaledale, close to Wensleydale.  It features ten well-appointed bedrooms across three floors, of which seven are en suite, as well as a restaurant, commercial kitchen, lounge and drawing room.

The hotel has a rich history and is named after Mrs Burgoyne-Johnson, a larger than life character who owned it during the 1920s, with a fire place baring her family crest still  featured in the drawing room today.  The property was later requisitioned by the RECE regiment in WW2  as a base to train soldiers in what was to become the SAS.

A popular wedding and celebration venue, the hotel is also well-used by parties coming to shoot over the famous grouse moors as well as cyclists, walkers, bird watchers, film crews and visitors attending local events including The Swaledale Festival, The Reeth Show and the Leyburn 1940’s weekend.

William Grant, managing director at Fox Grant, comments: “The Burgoyne is a charming hotel in a stunning location which attracts tourists throughout the year.  There’s currently multiple income streams which offer great potential to be increased.  The Burgoyne would make an ideal lifestyle or investment opportunity for the new owners.”

Tom Cunningham, hotels director at Savills, adds: “This historic hotel has performed well over recent years, and offers numerous opportunities to further enhance long term income.  This could include developing a midweek corporate business, applying for a civil wedding licence and extension of the restaurant hours, as well as opening over the Christmas when it has previously been closed.”  The Yorkshire Dales was recently nominated as National Park of the Year 2017 in the BBC Countryfile Magazine annual poll.
