Grade I Listed Tyringham Hall for sale through Savills

    01 May 2013

Grade I listed Tyringham Hall, built by Sir John Soane with gardens by Sir Edwin Lutyens, two of England’s greatest architects, is for sale through Savills Country Department with an £18 million guide price.

Tyringham Hall in Buckinghamshire was designed by Soane in 1792 for William Praed, renowned banker and MP. Tyringham was one of a series of new country houses designed by Soane, who is internationally regarded as one of the greatest architects of the neo-classical period. He records in his memoirs “this villa (was) completed and occupied in the year 1797 after having engaged a large proportion of six of the most happy years of my life”.

Approximately 4.5 miles from the picturesque market town of Olney and just 45 miles from London, Tyringham hall is internationally accessible. The hall stands in just under 60 acres of magnificent parkland, the formal gardens, which include two Lutyens masterpieces and one of Europe’s largest reflecting pools, demonstrate some of the most impressive landscaping work of the Lutyens era.

The present owners, who purchased the house twelve years ago,  have worked closely with English Heritage to make extensive and sympathetic improvements throughout, transforming the property into world class accommodation for family and entertaining. The 18th century neo-classical villa includes four magnificently proportioned reception rooms, a kitchen, breakfast room and study on the ground floor, with a spa, games, cinema room and gym areas on the lower ground. There are ten principle bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The Stable House provides exceptional secondary accommodation, including a further spa facility with ‘endless’ indoor pool.

Crispin Holborow, head of Savills Country Department, says: “Tyringham Hall combines some of finest work of Soane and Lutyens, and as such could be labelled as one of England’s greatest architectural masterpieces. What’s more it is in exceptional condition having been beautifully restored.”
