Charity launches £15 million sale of Victorian mansion in Buckninghamshire

22 February 2016

WEC International, represented by Savills, has brought to market its Grade II listed headquarters in Bulstrode Park, Buckinghamshire for a guide price of £15 million.

The Christian charity, which was founded by the English cricketer Charles T Studd who played in the original “Ashes” test, has owned and occupied the 106,000sq ft (9,861sq m) Victorian mansion for almost 50 years. The property is currently used as WEC International’s UK headquarters and a training base for future missionaries.

The site is steeped in history and was originally home to the 1st Baron Jeffreys of Wem, widely known as Hanging Judge Jeffreys.  The infamous judge was notorious for sentencing convicted persons to death by hanging.   A number of modern extensions have enhanced the spacious feel of the building, which has potential for a variety of future uses including residential and assisted living or as an international boarding school, headquarters or training centre.

Bulstrode Park is situated within Buckinghamshire’s picturesque green belt, close to several affluent commuter towns and villages including Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield.  Heathrow Airport is within a 20 minute drive time via the M25 and M40, offering international transport links.

Gary Witham, hotels director at Savills, comments: “We expect this significant historic property to have global appeal based on the versatility of its potential uses and its exceptionally well-connected location."

John Bagg, UK Director of WEC International, adds: “Realising the value of our headquarters in Bulstrode Park is an exciting step forward for the charity as we continue to expand our work on a global scale.  To fulfil our objectives, we are reordering, redistributing our resources and decentralising to  form clusters of workers in key geographic areas, especially in urban locations. The sale of Bulstrode is a key element in this.”
